Jenkins Davies and Ash on target as Romans win again

Opportunistic strikes from Will Jenkins Davies and Brad Ash followed by a trademark resolute defensive performance propelled City to a 2-0 win over Eastbourne Borough at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park this afternoon.

The visitors began the game brightly but it was City who struck first on 15 minutes. Danny Greenslade’s ball forward picked out Alex Fsiher. He did brilliantly to bring the ball down and get a shot away that Searle could only parry out to Jenkins Davies to divert the ball home from ten yards. Just past the half hour mark Searle did well to turn Tomlinson’s shot over the bar as City looked to extend their lead. The half closed with Eastbourne having strong penalty appeals for handball against Greenslade waved away by the referee.

The second half was less than one minute old when Mitch Beardmore’s mis-hit shot dropped perfectly for Brad Ash to fire across Searle and make it 2-0. The Sports should have pulled a goal back after 53 minutes when Harvey Wiles-Richards blocked Carter’s initial shot before Gbadebo blasted the follow-up wide. Uchegbulam saw his well-struck shot narrowly clear the bar two minutes later as Eastbourne continued to look for a way back into the game. They continued to enjoy upper hand possession-wise but failed to turn this into further clear openings, with City looking increasingly secure as the game wore on. A second victory and clean-sheet of the week sets the Romans up perfectly ahead on Monday’s trip to Ebbsfleet United.
