Late Rebels rally can’t prevent City securing vital victory
Goals from Will Jenkins Davies, Jake Tabor and Brad Ash saw City secure a vital 3-2 win over Slough Town at Arbour Park this evening.
Despite enjoying the better of the opening exchanges City fell behind on 13 minutes, Makowski netting with a low shot after the Romans spurned several chances to clear. Lifted by this the Rebels began to gain the upper hand, although City continued to pose a threat on the break. It looked like they would take their narrow lead into the break but in the final minute of stoppage time City won a free-kick 30 yards from goal which Jenkins Davies curled around the wall into the net.
City started the second half on the front foot – winning three successive corners. From the last of these Ollie Tomlinson headed back across the goal for Tabor to nod home his first goal for the club. Completely in control of the game now City extended their lead on 64 minutes. Tabor battled for possession in the box and the ball broke for Ash to sweep the ball past Desbois. Their advantage was halved six minutes later though when Myers’ speculative 25-yard effort slipped under Harvey Wiles-Richards. Slough suddenly sensed an unlikely comeback and it took a great save from Wiles-Richards on 88 minutes to keep out Goddard’s shot – Kieran Parselle nearly diverting the rebound into his own net. Despite well over ten additional minutes that was as close as Slough would come to denying City a huge three points.
