City recover from early scare to secure League Cup semi-final spot
City Women recovered from going a goal behind to beat Feniton 3-1 and progress to the MJM Sports League Cup semi-finals this afternoon at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park.
Hiscox headed home a 6th minute corner to give the Devon side an early lead. City slowly grew into the game and levelled on 33 minutes. Maddie Brown’s corner found the net via a slight deflection from a defender. And they went into the break ahead thanks to Brown’s stunning 25-yard shot that flew beyond impressive keeper Niblett in the 40th minute.
There was little flow to the game in the second half was a series of stoppages but with eight minutes left City made it 3-1 and secured the semi-final place. Niblett produced a stunning finger-tip save to divert Jasmine Rennie’s shot against the bar. Although appearing to be fouled as she battled for the rebound Adella Clarke headed the ball toward goal where, despite Niblett’s efforts to claw it away, it clearly crossed the line.
