City feed the Fish to return from Enfield with hard-fought point
An Alex Fisher header late in the first half ensured City returned from London today with a point in a 1-1 draw against Enfield Town at the Dave Bryant Stadium.
Jordan Alves almost caught home keeper Wright out in the first minute with a well-struck 30-yard free-kick but this was a rare moment of excitement the early exchanges. City’s main attacking threat was coming from set-pieces but it was the hosts who broke the deadlock on 32 minutes with a rare moment of quality. Adom-Malaki collected the ball 25-yards out and drilled a low shot into the corner of the net. City were level within eight minutes. A Joe Raynes long throw was diverted toward goal by Fisher and the ball looped over Wright’s despairing dive.
Little changed into the second half as Raynes’ long-throws continued to look the most likely route to further goals. Wright tipped another Fisher effort over on 58 minutes then got down well to turn Kieran Parselle’s header behind for a corner ten minutes later. The a goalmouth scramble in the 77th minute somehow didn’t end up in the Enfield net. The North London side won a series of corners in the game’s closing stages but City stood firm and had one final chance to win the game in the final minute when Alves was fouled 25-yards out. However, his free-kick narrowly cleared the bar, leaving both sides to settle for a point.
