Bath City Women maintain 100% start to 2026 to reach cup semi-final
Bath City Women progressed to the semi-finals of the Somerset Junior Cup with a 4-0 success over divisional rivals Stockwood Wanderers.
In a tie switched to Larkhall Athletic’s Securitas Stadium, City made a bright start with Clodagh Moran curling just wide and Abby Gray heading against the post inside five minutes. They took the lead on 25 minutes when Bex Fry’s perfectly weighted pass over the top was chased down by Adella Clarke, who shrugged off Milly Russ and expertly bent the ball over Ava Vowles in the visitors’ goal. Vowles did well to deny Moran just after the restart but was left exposed for the second when Fry played the ball from defence through to Tara Taylor, who skipped clear and calmly rolled home. A near identical pass and finish between the same players put the Romans 3-0 up before the break and they continued the dominance just after half-time.
Moran’s fierce strike came back off the post when Clarke converting the rebound, but she was flagged offside. Lucy Clay was called upon just past the hour when she did well to hold Lowick Miles’ effort, but Vowles was the busier keeper and did well to beat away Jess Evans’ attempt. The Stockwood stopper let Taylor’s cross slip through her hands with the ball appearing to cross the line, though a flag didn’t arrive as it was scrambled clear. Substitute Maddy Brown got in on the act with four minutes remaining. After the impressive Vowles bravely denied Poppy Spratt, City instantly won the ball back and Brown hammered into the roof of the net to round off the scoring.
