Away trip to Wealdstone

City travel to Wealdstone on Saturday for their penultimate away fixture of the season. At present the Stones sit in mid table having fallen out of contention for a play off place in recent weeks. Five defeats in the last seven home matches tells its own story and there has been the distraction of an excellent Trophy run to the semi final which was recently ended by Brackley Town. City supporters know only too well what it feels like to be knocked out by a Conference North club at this stage!

It will be good to see our former favourite Dave Pratt again although it will hopefully be a different result to the last time he faced us!

Those supporters wishing to travel should note that the Stones have not played at their spiritual home in Harrow for many years and are now based in Ruislip. This will be our fourth visit to Grosvenor Vale and our three wins help to explain why this is a popular trip for City supporters!

Having taken over the ground from defunct Ruislip Manor, it has gradually been improved in stages thanks to the stirling efforts of the club’s loyal fans. A new stand behind the goal has sprung up since our last visit which will only help to increase the atmosphere generated by the vociferous locals. And in this same part of the ground can be found the famous gun turret, used to protect nearby Northolt Aerodrome during WW2!

As this is London suburbia there are very few attractions in the surrounding area but Wealdstone has one of the league’s best clubhouses, offering some excellent beer, hot food and a warm welcome. And as there will be contributions from City supporters, the always readable programme should be worth buying.
