Ash and Parselle lead Romans charge to win over Stags

Goals from Brad Ash and Kieran Parselle secured a first Enterprise National League South win in two months for City against AFC Totton at Cannon Clarke Stadium @ Twerton Park this evening.

The visitors came into the game in 3rd place but after a bright opening were rocked back on six minutes when Joe Raynes crossed for the in-form Ash to head home his fourth goal in as many games. Lifted by this perfect start City began to gain the upper hand with Ash and Jake Tabor a constant threat to the Stags backline. Several half chances came and went before the pair combined brilliantly three minutes before the break, but Ash saw his shot well saved by keeper Gosney.

Another neat move seven minutes into the second half saw Ash crash a shot against the outside of the post. City only had to wait another seven minutes to double their lead though, as Totton failed to deal with a Will Jenkins Davies corner allowing Parselle to head home his first goal of the season. The Hampshire side came close to pulling a goal back on 64 minutes when Vigress broke clear but Harvey Wiles-Richard diverted his shot away for a corner. And this turned out to be their only clear chance as, despite enjoying the majority of possession, they couldn’t find a way past the Romans well-marshalled defence.
