City rediscover defensive form but have to settle for Chesham point

After conceding four goals in midweek City rediscovered their more familiar defensive security this afternoon in a goalless draw against Chesham United at The Meadow.

In a game that will not live long in the memory of both camps, chances were at a premium with just one real opening in each half for either side. After a largely uneventful opening to the game, midway through the half Minhas got behind City defence but saw his shot well-saved by debutant teenage keeper Isaac Finch. City began to enjoy more possession as half-time approached and a couple of minutes before the break Brad Ash saw his snap-shot fly narrowly wide via a slight deflection off a defender.

The Generals fashioned an early second half opening when Roberts crossed for Weiss to shoot narrowly wide of Finch’s goal. City’s best chance of the second period came just past the hour mark when the ball broke to substitute Alex Fisher in the area but keeper Goode reacted sharply to grab the ball at the strikers feet. Chesham looked the slightly more likely side to steal a late winner but failed to really test Finch again and in the end a share of the points was the right result.
