the problem with giving him the captaincy would be that he'd be an automatic selection... still at least sean will be able to look up to him! (for what little it means, i'd give it to roo)

Well, you all know my view of Rio BUT he has got tremendous ability.IF the captain's armband brings out his true potential, Capello will have pulled off a masterstroke. What we are not privy to is the dynamic of the dressing room, which, of course, Capello ought to be in tune with.

id give it too stevie G Hahahahaha....and Gerrard doesn't!?!?!? At least Rooney has been in great....no, sorry, WORLD CLASS form this season. That is the reason I wouldn't give it to him, just like Fergie didn't give it to him the other day - let him concentrate on what he's been doing so well. And as others have said the captain isn't *that* important, so why risk upsetting his amazing form? I'd be very surprised if that wasn't Capello's view as well... As for Rio, when he's on form he's a great captain, it's the rest of the time which is worrying Capello is a good manager and he put Terry first, Rio second and Gerrard third for a reason, and like he said there is no need to change that order, therefore vice-captain becomes captain

Lord Bear wrote: Totally agree It is hypocritical to get rid of a player for off the field misdemeanors and then appoint a guy with a much worse off the field record and more importantly a ban for skipping a drugs test. Besides being a bad role model, Rio is also a liability in an England shirt. He makes one major cock-up in most matches and you cannot afford to do that in a World Cup Finals tournament. He is also injury prone and has played little football this season. He should not have been an automatic choice for the team given his lack of form and fitness but now, unfortunately he cannot be left out.

Fret not Marquey....the press will be on his case and he's too stupid not to fall for a honey trap Let's start betting now on the next england skipper.

Snoop Doggy Rio is injured again and out of the Carling Cup final. He has played just 6 out of 28 league matches for Man U this season. In fact he has only played one league match in four months! The decision to appoint him just gets more bizarre by the minute What kind of state physically and what kind of form is he going to be in come the World Cup?
