FWP join team to work on Twerton Park redevelopment plan

Renowned sports stadia architects FWP Group has joined the project team for the redevelopment of Bath City Football Club’s home ground.

FWP joins the award-winning architects Stride Treglown and engineers BuroHappold who have already been appointed on the scheme.

FWP brings a wealth of experience to the project which aims to provide a new stand for the football club alongside new community facilities and the regeneration of Twerton High Street.

The company, which has offices in Preston and Manchester, is currently developing stadia and community assets for clubs such as Leamington Spa, Weymouth and Hastings. It has successfully advised more than 80 sports clubs across the UK on their redevelopment and modernisation plans, with many of them going on to design and build modern new facilities.

Championship club Preston North End’s striking Deepdale ground was led by FWP and the National League club AFC Fylde’s new home at Mill Farm is another award-winning project from the FWP team.

FWP is also working with Scunthorpe United to design a striking 12,000 capacity all-seater stadium and has created stunning new facilities for Fleetwood Town, Peterborough United and Oldham Athletic.

Brad Grime, associate partner at FWP, said: “In all our sports sector work our aim is to deliver real destination venues for sport, leisure and entertainment for the whole of the local community, with real benefits for clubs and their supporters.

“The talent on the Bath City redevelopment team will ensure a winning regeneration project that benefits everyone.”

Bath-based structural and civil engineers Momentum, project managers Jones Lang LaSalle and transport consultants Phil Jones Associates complete the professional team.

The Twerton Park project will see part of Bath City FC’s home ground demolished and replaced with new grandstand and community facilities, plus the redevelopment of the neighbouring parade of shops on High Street.

Nick Blofeld, chair of Bath City Football Club, said, “We are entering a key chapter in the life of the club.

“Our proposals for a partial redevelopment of the ground and an upgrade of the facilities will see us “fit for purpose” again, not only benefiting the Club, but also the wider community.

“Now we are community owned, we are determined to keep Bath City in the heart of Twerton and make it a key part of the community.

“We are very pleased FWP have joined the project team as they have recent, very relevant experience.”
